Minecraft cake for a seven year old

Today's cake may look simple in design but there was quite a bit of work involved in this Minecraft cake. This cube cake was created with a dense chocolate cake and a Nutella buttercream filling. To ensure I was able to create solid and straight corners, I coated the cake with ganache. This is one rich cake.
I covered the cake with 1,215 fondant pieces to create the pixelated effect. Yup, simple but still quite a bit of work.

Fairy Garden Stump Cake for a seven year old.

Today's post is about a cake that I made for my niece. Right now fairy gardens are all the rage and I had previously seen that my niece had made one herself. With that it mind I created a fairy home out of cake and buttercream and handmade some cake toppers out of polymer clay. Polymer clay is a great medium to use to create one-of-a-kind custom toppers that are meant to be keepsakes like the bride and groom for a wedding cake. I had hoped that once all the cake was eaten my niece would be able to add these pieces to her already cute fairy garden.

TomCat in a top hat cake for an 11 yr old

Today's cake was for a repeat customer who was looking for a cake that would look like her daughter's cat. The client sent me a bunch of reference photos and in one of them they had placed a top hat on his furry head. Too cute! That's the one.

This one was made out of "Oh my God" vanilla pound cake, vanilla buttercream, fondant and sugar paste. This was a super fun cake to make. I wonder what she'll get me to do next year?

A pretty cake in brush embroidery

Today's cake was for my daughter who requested chocolate and vanilla cake with a raspberry cream filling and ganache. You bet.
The decoration was up to me so I made it so I could try out a couple different techniques. Inside was a checkerboard pattern that looks much more complicated to complete than it is and on the outside I did some brush embroidery which was so much fun to do. One pretty cake that was really fun to make. : )

Retro Rocket cake for a 1 yr. old

The latest cake was a delicious lemon cake with a vanilla buttercream and minimal fondant. This 2D cake was made for a one-year old but was primarily meant to be enjoyed by the adults at the party.

Simple in design, this cake was such a joy to work on. As an added bonus I got to try out one of the photographic backdrops I made to document it.

Bollywood Style cake for a 50th Birthday

Today's cake was for a repeat customer looking for a 50th birthday cake with an intricate Bollywood style. The interior was vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. All the decorations and coverings were made with homemade fondant. Elements like the centre pearl and the gold appliques were made shimmery with edible lustre powders.
